The Exhibition and Sale of Traditional Crafts mainly ‘Seppu-washi paper (locally produced Japanese handmade paper)’
We are surrounded by mechanically produced things which are driven by the price increasingly. And due to the current circumstances, we are forced to spend indoors reluctantly nowadays. However, the artists’ lifestyle is plain and simple. It is all about the nature. We would like to show you how she has led her life and received gifts from the nature.
‘Seppu washi paper’ was born in a mountain village called ‘Take no Kouchi’. It was started by lost Samurais who were hiding in the mountain. They farmed and made washi paper. Ms. Yuko Yako learnt the traditional skill from the master crafts man, Mr. Toshimatsu Hara. She is the sole heir of this tradition.
The colour of plants used in the paper remind us the nature of Niigata. The whiteness of the paper makes us think the pure snow of Niigata.
The main feature of the exhibition is Ms. Yako’s artistic creations.
If you are lucky, you may be able to enjoy the blooming Japanese wisteria when you visit the exhibition.
